CONFORMITY IS COMFORTABLE
On this page, you will find several experiments, both critical and satyric, of what the female condition can be - and could have been -. We have mixed - without telling you where - writings made by female design theorists and societal diktats to experience them on this site.
We want to show the ambiguity of the boxes we are placed in during our life. Do we have to choose a side every time? To be all white or all black? Couldn't we be both feminist and accept to sometimes correspond to what the world expects from us?

One of the difficulties of a woman's existence lies in a quest of balance between what society expects and demands of her and her own aspirations. So should we interfere with our desires and projects, fight to be and remain who we are ? Or do we let ourselves be carried away by what others project on us ?
Is conformity really comfortable ?

“But in a home there are dozens, yes, hundreds, of tasks requiring totally different knowledge and movements. There is ironing, dusting, cooking, sewing, baking, and care of children. No two tasks are alike.”

“But, by keeping it quiet, we leave in the shadows the more or less conscious trade-offs that many women have to make when they try to take into account both their own aspirations and the expectations of society. Whether they choose to favour the former or the latter, there will always be a price to pay.”

“To show women's different kitchen tools in contrast is important to make clear, that we are all the same and a conform social picture of the perfect Role Model can truly meet reality.”
“The society offers a huge space of blooming : we can use this part of freedom without limits.”
I love fitting perfectly into the box that society and men have designed for me.
"To be a perfect companion, mother, cook and mistress of the house, beautiful and well-dressed, whose family life boils down to a long series of pleasures and who offers her offspring a dream childhood" is easy.
“A feminist analysis in the discipline of design history isn’t of key significance in the process of bringing to light the efforts women have made to shape the world in a more female image in spite of the limitations imposed by economic imperatives and social conventions.”
Not sharing chores is a good way to make everyone feel comfortable in the family.

"[...] So I don't envy Mimi Thorisson's life - her life would make me neurasthenic in ten minutes: I envy the conformity of her aspirations. Rowing against the current makes you tired. It must be so good, so comfortable, so restful to let oneself slip into normality as in a hot bath; to occupy a terrain previously marked out by millions of other women, and perhaps above all by millions of representations of what a woman should be; to take on a role that revives the memory of millions of familiar, reassuring images; to feel approved in what one is and in what one does by centuries of learned or popular culture."
